Day Four: Molly Brown House, Denver Colorado.

Well, my daughter Meaghan really knows how to please me: historical houses! (I worked at Kimberly Crest in Redlands for fourteen years). We visited the Molly Brown house today in downtown Denver. Unfortunately, they allow no interior photography, which I expected. However, I got quite a few outside.
I went again to see the anaglypta. That’s the pressed, glazed, gilded paper/cardboard interior wall treatment so unusual but popular at the turn of the twentieth century. There were also some beautiful stained-glass windows by William Lang, but everything else was approximated.
Tickets were cheap, the docents fairly knowledgeable, a cute gift shop was in the carriage house but I disagree with Wikipedia (again): it’s not Victorian Gothic, it’s Eastlake. Even the door handles and mantlepieces were Eastlake. Oh well, we had fun! That’s what’s important.
