Day 18: Wichita to Valentine, Nebraska

At Emporia, Kansas, we recorded that we had gone 6,700 miles! Jim has done most of the driving, again.

As we departed Kansas, fields were being burnt to enrich the soil. It amazed me that this was undertaken despite the plus-one-hundred-degree weather.

In Kansas we came across a beautiful convent built in 1913-Nazareth Convent. It was run by the Sisters of St. Joseph and was located in Concordia, Kansas.

So serene—they had a community garden going, and sprinklers…

CORN! CORN! and more CORN! From the 96 west to the 135 to the 81 north through Salina—we are changing our route, again!

Church in Columbus,Nebraska…We go north on the 81 and then west on the the 275 towards the Badlands of South Dakota.

Such wonderful old buildings all over the midwest!
